Helpful Tips: Top Dressing & Leveling
Top Dressing, not to be confused with leveling (read more about Leveling here), is the installation of a thin layer, 1/4″ to 1/2″, of Enriched Top Soil to a lawn for the purpose of building up the grade and for increasing the quality of the soil over a period of time by adding essential nutrients to the lawn. Enriched Top Soil is comprised of sandy loam with organic compost. The sandy loam will be mostly sand with some silt and clay. Compost may include grass clippings, leaves, branches, manure, straw and/or stable bedding depending on the availability of these feed stocks. Top Dressing can be performed every two to three years, preferably in the early spring or early fall. Leveling, using Enriched Top Soil, can be combined with the Top Dressing Service.
